IPL 2019: Manoj Tiwary wonders what went wrong after he found no bids in the auction
The batsman, who averages over 50 in first-class cricket, however, found support from his fans who sympathized with him for the hard work he puts and advised him to do his bit.
For Manoj Tiwary, the cricket gods have been surprisingly ruthless at times. The captain of Bengal was the first to go under the hammer in the auction of the 2019 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) but found no takers in a rerun of the 2016 scenario. The 33-year-old, who played for teams like Delhi Capitals (earlier Delhi Daredevils), Kolkata Knight Riders, Rising Pune Supergiant and Kings XI Punjab (he was part of that team in 2018) and has featured in 10 editions starting from the inaugural one in 2008, was surprised by the outcome.
Tiwary though did not have a satisfactory outing in the 2018 season, managing just 47 runs in five matches at an average of 15.66 with the highest score of 35 but he certainly had a decent performance for Rising Pune Supergiant in the 2017 edition when he scored over 300 runs in 15 matches and played in the final. It was also his second final after the 2012 edition which he played for Knight Riders and hit the winning runs in a high-scoring title clash against Chennai Super Kings.
Tiwary recalls he was dropped for 14 games after scoring his international hundred
On Tuesday, Tiwary tweeted after getting overlooked in the auction for the 2019 season and he revealed that he is yet to get over the old pain of getting dropped from the Indian playing XI immediately after hitting a century in ODIs. Tiwary scored an unbeaten ton against the Windies in a home series in 2011 and was also picked as the man of the match. He returned to the national side after 14 games and seven months but did not make it again to the team after playing six games.
The man also got quite a few awards in the IPL 2017 season and played a key role behind the Supergiant making the final but after failing to find a franchise in the latest auction, he was surprised.
The batsman, who averages over 50 in first-class cricket, however, found support from his fans who sympathized with him for the hard work he puts and advised him to do his bit.
