Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis is playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 after spending some time with the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) franchise. However, the fortunes of his new franchise have turned for the worse, as they have lost all the five matches in the tournament until now.

Their latest loss came against Kolkata Knight Riders, as they scored 53 runs in 11 balls to win the match in the last three overs, all thanks to the brutal brilliance of Andre Russell, who slammed seven sixes and one four in his 13-ball 48*. His innings helped KKR chase down the target of 206 set by RCB team and brought more frustration for skipper Virat Kohli, who is yet to be on the winning side this year.

Stoinis however, has been contributing well with the bat, having scored 31* and 28* in two matches he has featured in. His 28* against KKR helped the RCB team reach 205 runs and during the mid-innings of the match, Stoinis had called the Royal Challengers Bangalore team the biggest franchise in the world.

What a place, Great fans, says Marcus Stoinis about RCB

AB de Villiers (63) and Virat Kohli (84) and their 108-run partnership, along with Stoinis’ contribution had taken RCB to 205/3 in 20 overs against KKR and it looked like after four heartbreaking and embarrassing defeats on a trot, the franchise will finally get to break the taboo and win their first match.

“What a place. Great fans. Arguably the biggest franchise in World Cricket. Exciting to be here. We have two best batsmen of this generation in our team. Tonight, has been so good so far. It looks like a good wicket. I wasn’t there for a long time as I came in the slog overs. Hopefully, we have posted enough,” Stoinis was quoted as saying by India Today, in the mid-innings break.

RCB had reduced KKR to 153/5 by the end of 17th over with strong contributions from Chris Lynn, Robin Uthappa and Nitish Rana. With 53 needed in last 18 balls, Russell launched a brutal attack on RCB bowlers, which saw KKR reaching the target with 5 balls to spare and Virat Kohli could only hide his frustrations with his cap, as his fielders dropped important catches and bowlers went for runs everywhere.
