The twelfth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will get underway with the high-voltage star-studded clash between defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Chepauk. It will be a clash between two teams who are on the extreme end of the spectrum as far as the success in the league is concerned. While the Super Kings are one of the most successful teams in the history of the league, having won it thrice, the Royal Challengers are yet to lay their hands on the coveted trophy even once.

Both the teams had contrasting fortunes last season too. The CSK, returning to the league after serving the two-year suspension, had gone on to defy all the odds to win the title. On the other hand, the Royal Challengers once again failed to live up to the expectations and finished a lowly sixth in the eight-team competition. Both the teams will be looking to get off to a winning start as the hosts will be eyeing a record fourth title while the visitors will be desperate to end their trophy duck.

As far as the numbers are concerned, the Super Kings will be the favourites to win the encounter. The MS Dhoni-led side has won each of its previous six IPL matches against the RCB. Overall, the Super Kings have won 14 of the 22 games they have played against Bangalore while the latter have won just 7 with the last one coming way back in 2014. But then stats and numbers only make a difference for the statisticians as both the teams will be looking to start afresh this season.

How’s the weather in Chennai?

As the two sides brace up to start the tournament on a high, the weather is unlikely to play spoilsport. According to Accu Weather, the day will be bright and sunny with the temperature ranging in the mid-30s. The mercury will go down towards the evening, much to the relief of the players and the fans.

The temperature during the match time is likely to be in the late-20s. There is little or no chance of rain but the humidity and the heat might make things tough for the players and the fans. Having said that, there will be no let up in the intensity from both the teams and a jam-packed crowd.
