The game between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) turned out to be a nail-biter. Both the teams fought tooth and nail at the Feroz Shah Kotla in New Delhi. The contest eventually went down to the super over where the home team, led by Shreyas Iyer, came out trumps. Nevertheless, despite the loss, KKR remain at the top of the points table. Capitals moved up to the second position.
Muscle Russell fires again
The Capitals elected to field first after winning the toss and the decision turned out to be fruitful for them as they reduced the Knight Riders to 61 for five in the 10th over. Opening the batting with Nikhil Naik failed as leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane trapped him plumb in front. Robin Uthappa hit two boundaries and Harshal Patel nipped him out. Patel got his second wicket in the form of Nitish Rana.
Shubman Gill succumbed to a run-out. Thereafter, Dinesh Karthik and Andre Russell took charge. Karthik scored 50 off 36 balls with five fours and a six, but it was a 28-ball 62 from Muscle Russell that propelled the Knights’ score to 185 for eight. A beamer from Harshal smacked him on his shoulder and he looked in discomfort, yet he didn’t give up. Rather, the Jamaican kept depositing the ball all around the park.
Shaw blazes away
Shikhar Dhawan trod the attacking route and hit two fours and a six, but Piyush Chawla picked him up after the left-hander scored 16 from eight balls. Then it was the turn of Shreyas Iyer and Prithvi Shaw to unleash their strokes and the duo cobbled together a partnership of 89 runs. Shaw scored his half-century in 30 balls. Iyer took his time to get going, but even he picked up the pace later in his knock.
The Capitals’ captain scored 43 from 32 balls after which Russell pinned him. Meanwhile, Shaw was looking good to get his maiden IPL century, but the youngster missed out on the milestone and perished for 99. His knock was laced with 12 boundaries and three sixes. In the last over, the home team needed six runs and Kuldeep Yadav defended six runs to send the encounter to the super over.
Rabada steals the show
In the super over, Iyer and Pant came out to bat and the former hit Prasidh Krishna for a boundary In the very next ball, he got out and Shaw came in the middle. Delhi ended up, scoring 10 runs. Andre Russell and Dinesh Karthik took the crease for the Knights. Dre-Russ smacked a boundary in the first ball of the over and then played out a dot ball.
In the third delivery, Kagiso Rabada rattled his woodwork with a breathtaking Yorker. The third delivery turned out to be a single. Karthik paddled the ball down the fine-leg for a single. With five runs needed off the last ball, Rabada gave away only a single and seal the deal for the Capitals.
