IPL 2019: Match 10, Delhi Capitals vs Kolkata Knight Riders – Lesser Known Stats
Here are the lesser known stats and numbers recorded during the first tied IPL game nearly after two years.
The Delhi Capitals once again showed their potential in this season as they got better off the Kolkata Knight Riders who comprehensively won two home matches they played thus far. Andre Russell (62) and Dinesh Karthik (50) rescued the team after the early stutter to push the total to 185/8. Prithvi Shaw’s 55-ball 99 put the hosts ahead in the chase but a couple of tight last overs saw the game end in a Tie. Kagiso Rabada powered the Delhi team to a victory by conceding only seven runs in the Super Over after they scored 10 runs.
Here are the lesser known stats and numbers recorded during the first tied IPL game nearly after two years:
The Super Over Jinx for KKR:
The Kolkata Knight Riders became the 2nd team to be part of three Tied matches in the IPL. Rajasthan Royals is the other team who was involved in two such games with KKR during the 2009 edition in Cape Town and during the 2014 season in Abu Dhabi respectively. Unfortunately, all the three Super Overs in the IPL resulted in defeats for the Knight Riders. The Royals also featured in a Tied IPL game during the 2015 season against KXIP.
Kuldeep and Rabada’s master-class:
The six runs that Kuldeep Yadav defended in the final over of the game are the joint 2nd least by any player in the final over of an IPL chase. Munaf Patel successfully defended four runs against MI in 2009 while Sid Trivedi successfully defended six runs in 2010 against DC. On both the instances, the Rajasthan Royals ended up winning the encounters by two runs.
The likes of Kamran Khan in 2009 and Vinay Kumar in 2013 gave away six runs in the final over when the opponent needed seven to take the game into the Super Over. In fact, Delhi’s total of ten runs in the Super Over is the lowest any player has successfully defended in the Super Over. Kagiso Rabada conceded only seven runs in the one-over Eliminator despite getting hit for a boundary on the first ball.
Mumbai Indians’ 11 runs during their Super Over in 2017 against Gujarat Lions were the previous lowest to come on the winning side while batting first in the Super Over. Jasprit Bumrah conceded only six runs in the over out of which four runs came via extras. The two runs off the bat during that over came in the form of singles during the last two deliveries.
Prithvi does a Kohli:
Prithvi Shaw fell one run short of becoming the youngest player to score a century in the IPL. However, 19-year-old became only the 2nd Indian in the history of the Twenty20 cricket to be dismissed on 99. Virat Kohli was the first to be dismissed on 99 in this format when he was run out during the 2013 IPL game between RCB and DD also played at the Feroz Shah Kotla. Overall, Prithvi is only the 8th player to be dismissed one run short of a hundred in the Twenty20 format.
As many as four batsmen including Prithvi got out on 99 in the last four months. Alex Hales (in a T20I in 2012), Kohli, Wayne Parnell (Ram Slam 2015) and Marcus Stoinis (BBL 2017/18) were the first four players to be dismissed on 99. Dean Brownlie (Super Smash 2018/19), Lahiru Samarakoon (SL T20 2019) and Ahmed Shehzad (PSL 2019) got out on 99 in the Twenty20s since December 2018 before Shaw.
