Two teams with the contrasting state of minds at the moment, will face-off in the 12th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) on Sunday. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will host the winless Rajasthan Royals at the MA Chidambaram stadium and this presents another chance for the officials at the venue to make amends after unleashing a poor pitch in the season opener.

The Men in Yellow have been jolted with yet another overseas player David Willey getting ruled out of the season. But that doesn’t seem to affect them. After a comprehensive performance in the first game, they conquered Delhi and now have come back home to continue their winning run. It will be interesting to see if they make any changes to the line-up.

The Royals, on the other hand, are still searching for their first points. Despite posting a mammoth total of 198 runs on the board in Hyderabad, they ended up on the wrong side of the result. The bowling attack is looking weak for them and the team management should look for quick solutions.

Pitch and Conditions

The curator has got more than a week to dish out a much better surface compared to the first game. The pitch will certainly improve this time and despite that, the spin will most likely come into play later in the game. Once again, the humidity will play its part and the temperatures will hover around 32 Degrees Celsius. There will not be much dew at the venue and if there will be any, it might not affect the fielding side.

Team Combinations

Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

Dhoni doesn’t like to tinker with the line-up much but he might go in with more spinners for this game, Shardul Thakur was ineffective in the previous game and he might get replaced by Mitchell Santner. They have so far played with only three foreign players and the addition of the Kiwi bowler will lend more balance to the team and also give the batting depth. Imran Tahir will also play a crucial role for them at the Chepauk.

Probable XI: Shane Watson, Ambati Rayudu, Suresh Raina, Kedar Jadhav, MS Dhoni (C & WK), Dwayne Bravo, Ravindra Jadeja, Mitchell Santner, Deepak Chahar, Harbhajan Singh, Imran Tahir.

Rajasthan Royals (RR)

The Royals bowling has looked weak so far in the two matches and even they might be pondering to add an extra spinner in their playing XI. Sudhesan Midhun, the leg-spinner, is likely to come into the team at the expense of Dhawal Kulkarni who conceded 40 runs off his three overs in Hyderabad. Krishnappa Gowtham and Shreyas Gopal will also be important for the team in this game.

Probable XI: Ajinkya Rahane (C), Jos Buttler (WK), Sanju Samson, Steve Smith, Rahul Tripathi, Ben Stokes, Krishnappa Gowtham, Shreyas Gopal, Jofra Archer, Jaydev Unadkat, Sudhesan Midhun.

Probable Top Performers

Suresh Raina – Chennai Super Kings | Steve Smith – Rajasthan Royals
