IPL 2019: Match 15 – MI vs CSK – Funniest Memes from the Match
It was an easy victory for Mumbai in the end.
The ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) is dishing out some unexpected things. Two much-awaited matches (CSK vs RCB and MI vs CSK) have turned out to be damp squibs now. The El-Classico of the IPL history was a one-sided encounter thanks to a clinical show from the Mumbai Indians as they won the game by 37 runs. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) conceded 45 runs in the last two overs courtesy Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya and that eventually cost them the game.
Stunned with the momentum gained by the Mumbai Indians in the first innings, the CSK got off to an extremely poor start. Jason Behrendorff extracted bounce from the pitch to send back Ambati Rayudu in the very first over. Shane Watson also followed thanks to a perfectly timed jump from Kieron Pollard inside the circle. However, the best was yet to come for the Caribbean player on the field.
After making the difference with the bat, Pollard took a single-handed stunner in the deep covers to end Suresh Raina’s entertaining innings. MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav then rebuilt the innings but the former never looked in his elements. Dhoni had a poor day with the bat and he could only muster 12 runs from 21 deliveries. Jadhav scored a half-century but he never threatened Mumbai to take the game.
The only half-century partnership in their innings wasn’t enough for the CSK. They could only reach 133 runs after 20 overs as the Mumbai Indians scripted an emphatic victory.
MI get a powerful finish
Earlier, Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock got out early thanks to some tight bowling from the visiting bowlers in the powerplay. Even Yuvraj Singh was dismissed early as the Mumbai Indians were reeling at 50/3 in the ninth over and the prospects of getting a big score were looking bleak. Suryakumar Yadav and Krunal Pandya, who was promoted to five, then resurrected the innings.
The duo took calculative risks and most importantly took the game deep. They added 62 runs together in 49 balls but the run-rate never went out of hands for the CSK. Meanwhile, Surya got to his first half-century of the season and then got out trying to up the ante in the 18th over soon after Krunal was dismissed in the previous over. But they had done their job perfectly and they fell at the perfect time for the home team.
Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard then got together to make a massive difference in the match. They ripped apart Shardul Thakur and Dwayne Bravo in the last couple of overs as Mumbai added 45 runs and ended up at 170 runs after 20 overs. The final push proved to be too much for the Men in Yellow as they fell short of the target comfortably in the end.
