MI continue their domination:
Mumbai Indians’ positive record over the Chennai Super Kings is very well known one as they got better of CSK on 14 instances in the IPL out of the 25 meetings. The speciality of MI’s win-loss record is that the Super Kings have not lost more than seven matches against any other team which is half of MI’s IPL wins over CSK. The likes of RCB, KKR, Kings XI and RR all have seven IPL wins over the Chennai team.
Missing the overseas players:
For the 3rd time in four matches this season, CSK fielded with only three overseas players in their playing XI. This is due to the absence of Lungi Ngidi and David Willey ahead of the tournament. This made the CSK management pick an extra bowling point among the Indian players. The Super Kings featured in 148 IPL matches until the end of the 2018 season but never did they field less than four overseas players.
End of a streak for CSK:
The Super Kings thus far won six or more consecutive matches in the IPL on three different instances. This was the first time that CSK team have been defeated in this season and for the first time in seven matches since league phase of the 2018 IPL. The 37-run defeat in this game was CSK’s 4th biggest defeat in terms of runs in the IPL.
CSK’s longest IPL winning streak of seven matches was recorded during the 2013 season which came to an end with a 60-run defeat to the Mumbai Indians only. The Kings XI Punjab then defeated CSK in 2014 by a huge 44-run margin to end their 6-match winning streak. That was CSK’s 2nd heaviest defeat in runs in the history of IPL.
