The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) pulled off a thrilling victory against the Sunrisers Hyderabad to get off the mark in the new season thanks to Andre Russell’s blitz. The comeback man David Warner continued from where he left for the Sunrisers as he scored 85 to help his team to finish on 181/3. The KKR lacked consistency in their run-chase and were required to get 52 from the last three overs. However, Russell, along with young Shubman Gill, chased down those runs with two balls to spare.

A record finishing:

53 – Runs Kolkata Knight Riders needed at the end of the 17th over. These are the most runs successfully chased down by any team in the last three overs of an IPL game.

The Chennai Super Kings successfully chased 50 runs from the last three overs of the 2012 IPL game at the Chepauk against the Royal Challengers Bangalore.


Warner continues his dominance:

37 – Number of fifties David Warner has scored in the IPL thus far; the most by any player. He went past Gautam Gambhir’s tally of 36 fifties in the league. Warner has 40 fifty-plus scores in the IPL including three centuries. Virat Kohli, with 38 50+ scores in the IPL, stands at 2nd place.


85David Warner’s 85 in this game is the 10th highest individual score in the IPL for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Seven of those ten have been recorded by Warner including three against the Knight Riders.


762 – Runs David Warner aggregated in the IPL against the KKR; the most by any player. He surpassed Rohit Sharma’s tally of 757 runs despite playing three innings fewer than Rohit.


Warner stabilizes SRH again:

7 – The century stand between Warner and Jonny Bairstow is the 7th 100-run opening partnership for SRH in the IPL. All the seven century opening stands for SRH in the league involves Warner as the previous six were recorded by him and Shikhar Dhawan.

In overall, Warner has been a part of 13 out of 18 century partnerships of Sunrisers in the IPL. Four of the remaining five recorded during the 2018 edition in the absence of Warner.


8 – Warner now has been part of eight 100-run partnerships for the opening wicket in the IPL. Only Chris Gayle (9) has been part of more century opening stands than Warner in the IPL.


Bhuvi turns captain:

1 – Bhuvneshwar Kumar made his captaincy debut in the Twenty20 format during this game. Only once before, Bhuvneshwar captained any team in his professional career. He captained the Uttar Pradesh domestic side in the 2016/17 Ranji Trophy against the Mumbai team.
