IPL 2019: Match 20, RCB vs DC – Delhi Capitals Player Ratings

The stage was all set for the ‘go green’ game of the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2019 edition of the IPL. RCB hosted the Delhi Capitals in the day game in Bengaluru. Coming into the game, the hosts hoped for a change in fortune with a change in their colours, but unfortunately, the luckless run of the Virat Kohli-led side continued as DC romped home as the winners of the match. On a wicket that promised to be a run fest, RCB batters failed to put on a big total on the board, and that is perhaps where they lost the game, and largely played a catching game thereafter. The Delhi Capitals won the toss and opted to bowl first. They were happy to see the likes of Parthiv Patel and AB de Villiers back in the pavilion by the end of the powerplay. Virat Kohli held the key for the sinking ship of RCB yet again. Kohli tried hard to stand tall amidst the dwindling fortunes, but could not do it for long. He top scored in the innings with 41 runs, and Moeen Ali provided some flourish with a quick 32. But Rabada’s four-wicket haul highlighted the innings that folded up with 149/8 in 20 overs. The run chase was perfectly guided by the DC skipper Shreyas Iyer, who hit his first fifty of the season. Iyer finished with 67 to his name as the other batters batted around him in the chase. Earlier, Prithvi Shaw had lit up the chase with five cracking shots to his name. Rishabh Pant played a supporting role too. Sloppy fielding and poor bowling only added to the woes of RCB, as DC cruised home. There was a bit of anti-climax and a mini-scare in the end overs, but it was a little far too late for RCB to stage a comeback. DC won by 4 wickets. Here are the DC Player Ratings for the match: Prithvi Shaw – 7/10 Prithvi Shaw looked amazing a couple of matches ago when he scored a brilliant 99. But he failed to back it up with good scores in the next two matches that followed. The story was no different here either as he could only score 28 off 22 balls. But Shaw had a little moment to cherish of his own in Bengaluru. He cracked five boundaries in an over bowled by Tim Southee to show that he has some serious class and calibre. Shikhar Dhawan – 1/10 Shikhar Dhawan had a very disappointing match. He perished for a golden duck. In his defence, he can certainly say that it was a very good catch from Navdeep Saini that got him dismissed. Dhawan went for the big shot on the very first ball that he faced, bowled by Tim Southee. Dhawan’s flashy shot managed to get an outside edge that was very well taken by Saini at third man. Shreyas Iyer – 9.5/10 Shreyas Iyer played the anchoring role in the run chase. His side was under pressure coming in to the game, and he delivered when it was needed. Iyer notched up his first fifty of the season. This innings will certainly give him a lot of confidence going into the coming fixtures in the season. It was an anti-climax when Iyer was dismissed with the team being at a striking distance from the victory. Iyer finished with 67 off 50 deliveries with 8 fours and a couple of sixes to his name. Rishabh Pant – 7/10 Rishabh Pant arrived at the crease after the dismissal of Colin Ingram. Pant played the supporting role to Shreyas Iyer in the run chase. The run chase was under control, and one would have expected Pant to just nudge around. But the southpaw tried to slog almost delivery that he faced, albeit not getting the desired results on the day. Pant just threw it away when 3 runs were needed for the win. He finished with 18 off 14 balls to his name. Rahul Tewatia – Not Assigned Rahul Tewatia was underused in the match. With the frontline bowlers bowling well in the match, Tewatia’s services with the ball were not needed in the game. He batted for just two deliveries and took a single run. Colin Ingram – 6/10 Colin Ingram announced his arrival at the crease with a good hit for six early on in his innings. Later, he hit a four off the bowling of Moeen Ali and then got a little too greedy to scoop another one in the same over. He ended up getting hit on his pads right in front of the stumps to be given out lbw. Ingram scored 22 off the 21 balls that he faced. Chris Morris – 8.5/10 Chris Morris bowled with grit and pace in this match. Morris provided the first breakthrough to his side in the second over of the match when he dismissed an in-form Parthiv Patel. Bowling in tandem with Ishant Sharma, he bowled tight lines to ensure that the RCB batters did not run away with a lot of runs in the powerplay. RCB could only manage to score 40 runs in their powerplay. Morris came back to bowl the penultimate over as well, and picked up the wicket of Mohammed Siraj. He finished with 2/28 in his four overs. With the bat, Morris had the chance to play the finishing role but failed to do so and bagged a three-ball duck. Axar Patel – 8/10 Axar Patel has been bowling very well this season. After being off-colour in the last few seasons, Axar has come really good for the Capitals. Shreyas Iyer has been making use of his services very wisely. Yet again, Axar bowled a very economical spell in the match. Axar conceded only 22 runs in his four overs and managed to take the wicket of Marcus Stoinis, which was a turning point in the match. Later, he hit the winning runs in the match to end the high pressure that the DC inflicted on themselves by imploding towards the end. Kagiso Rabada – 9.5/10 Kagiso Rabada was the pick of the bowlers for DC in the match. Rabada bagged the wicket of his former national teammate AB de Villiers that put RCB on the backfoot. He then took the big fish Virat Kohli as well to put the Capitals on top. In the final overs, he accounted for the dismissals of Akshdeep Nath and Pawan Negi to finish with a four-wicket haul to his name. Rabada wrapped up with 4/21 in his four overs. Ishant Sharma – 4/10 Ishant Sharma had a decent run in the match. The tall pace bowler set things up perfectly for the other bowlers bowling around him. He did not let the opposition run away with quick runs and bowled with an economy rate of under 8 per over. He, however, could not pick up any wicket in the match. Ishant finished with 0/31 in his quota of four overs. Sandeep Lamichhane – 3/10 Sandeep Lamichhane had a match to forget in this particular encounter. He was welcomed at the crease with a long 83 metre six hit by Marcus Stoinis. This was perhaps the signs of things to come for the spinner. Most DC bowlers bowled well in the match, but Sandeep had a tough day. He ended up conceding 46 runs in his four overs and was the most expensive bowler in his side. To his respite, he managed to take the wicket of a threatening Moeen Ali.
