IPL 2019: Match 20, Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Delhi Capitals – Lesser Known Stats

The Delhi Capitals tried their best to collapse once again but were good enough eventually against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Captain Shreyas Iyer scored 67 from 50 balls to guide his team in the chase of a 150-run target. He was dismissed as the 4th wicket of Delhi when they needed five runs from 16 deliveries. Rishabh Pant and Chris Morris followed their captain but three runs from nine balls was too less an equation to make a match out for RCB with four wickets still left for the visitors.

RCB registers the worst ever start:

The Royal Challengers Bangalore’s losing streak doesn’t seem to stop as they lost all the six matches they played. Thus, they became only the 2nd team in the history of IPL to lose each of their first six matches in a season. The Delhi Capitals, named Delhi Daredevils in 2013, also lost their first six matches. The worst start from which a team made it to the playoffs is Mumbai Indians after losing their first five in the 2014 edition.

RCB and Go Green pattern:

The RCB team has been endorsing the Go Green movement and will be donning a Green Jersey in one of the afternoon games every season. This trend has begun in 2011 but the results have hardly gone their way in this special match. Out of the nine Go Green matches, the RCB team has won only twice – in 2011 and in 2017.

Interestingly, they ended up in the final of the tournament in those two editions. The special game during the 2015 season ended in a washout where the RCB team’s journey came to an end in the 2nd qualifier. Virat Kohli is someone who dominates his partners with the bat on the field. However, he was settled to taking singles and his partners facing more deliveries. Kohli got a boundary on the first ball he faced through an edge. He picked up singles on the next five balls and followed it with three dot balls. Later Kohli picked singles between the 10th ball and the 26th ball he faced in this game.

His streak of 17 singles in 17 balls came to an end when he ducked to a bouncer from Ishant Sharma in the 14th over. After a couple of more singles, Kohli hit Sandeep Lamichhane for back to back sixes in the 17th over. He retained the strike for next over by picking up his 25th single from 32 balls in the innings. He miscued a lofted shot on the 33rd delivery he faced to be dismissed on 41 by Kagiso Rabada.
