The visiting teams continue to find tough at the Chepauk as the Chennai Super Kings registered their 4th successive win at this venue this season. The Kolkata Knight Riders’ attacking approach didn’t find a place at this venue as they kept losing wickets regularly. The in-form all-rounder Andre Russell crawled to an unbeaten 44-ball 50 to take his team to at least 108/9. The KKR spinners tried their best to take the game as deep as possible but CSK lost only three wickets and the pressure hardly came onto them.
Here are lesser known stats recorded during CSK’s 4th consecutive win in Chennai this season:
A record-breaking spell from Chahar:
Deepak Chahar bowled as many as 20 dot balls during his four overs against KKR which are now the most dots bowled in a single IPL inning. Fidel Edwards, Ashish Nehra and Munaf Patel bowled 19 dots apiece in a game during the 2009 season held in South Africa. Zaheer Khan was the recent most player with 19 dots in an IPL game which he recorded it against CSK for the Delhi Daredevils. During the 2011 season, S Sreesanth also delivered 19 dots in a game including two dots on the no-balls.
Morne Morkel in the same 2011 season and Ankit Rajpoot in the previous edition also delivered 19 dot balls which include a dot delivery on a no-ball. Despite bowling 20 dot balls, Chahar didn’t bowl a no-ball and in fact, he ended up conceding 20 runs. He gave away a five in the first over including four overthrows and bowled a wide in the 2nd over. He began the 3rd over with two boundaries to Robin Uthappa while his last over went for six as Andre Russell hit Chahar for a maximum.
Narine gets better of Raina:
Suresh Raina used to have an impeccable record against Sunil Narine in the IPL until 2017. The left-hander was hardly troubled by the off-spinner as he scored 84 runs from 58 balls without getting dismissed. He struck five fours and four sixes in the IPL till the end of the 2017 season against Narine. However, in the last three meetings, Narine has claimed Raina’s wicket twice in 16 balls conceding 13 runs. Both the dismissals were recorded in the games played in Chennai only.
Russell’s slowest effort:
Andre Russell’s fifty against the Chennai Super Kings was his 3rd consecutive fifty against them and overall his 17th fifty-plus score in the Twenty20 format. He brought up his fifty from 44 balls which is by far his slowest among those 17 50+ scores. Russell previous slowest T20 fifty came 12 balls lesser as he registered a 32-ball half-century in 2011 against the BCB XI while playing for the Windies. It was incidentally his maiden fifty in the Twenty20 format.
