In what could be called the biggest clash of the season so far, defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will welcome table-toppers Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Chepauk on Tuesday. Both the teams have won four of their opening five games and are sitting at the top two positions with Knight Riders ahead of the Super Kings on net run-rate. Both the teams are entering the much-awaited contest on the back of contrasting wins.
While Super Kings had to toil hard against Kings XI Punjab, Knight Riders made light work of Rajasthan Royals. On the spinning track of Chepauk, the Super Kings choked the Kings XI to register a 22-run win. Batting first, the Super Kings overcame a dull period in the middle overs to blast 44 runs in the final three overs to score 160. In reply, the Kings XI were looking destined to register a victory at the Chepauk when KL Rahul and Sarfaraz Khan scored fifties during their 110-run stand. However, with the required-rate mounting, the Kings XI’s challenge eventually fizzled out and they finished on 138.
On the other hand, the Knight Riders thrashed the lacklustre Royals by eight wickets. Bowling first, KKR restricted the Royals to just 139 for 3. Sunil Narine and Chris Lynn then shared an opening stand of 91 runs to lay the foundation for the easy chase before Robin Uthappa and Shubman Gill took the team home with more than 6 overs remaining.
With both the team looking in dominant form at the moment, one can expect a tough fight in Chennai just like the last year. More than 400 runs were scored when both the teams had met last year at the Chepauk. A 36-ball 88 runs knock from Andre Russell had powered the Knight Riders to 202 but the CSK had chased down the total with a ball to spare.
How will be the weather:
Given the form both the teams are in, no one would like to even miss a single second of action and the weather is unlikely to play spoilsport. According to AccuWeather, the temperature will be between 30 to 35-degree Celsius as the game progresses. There is no prediction of rain although the cloud cover will range between 22-46%. The humidity will be on the higher side in the coastal city. At the start of the game, the humidity will be in the 80s but will slowly drop down to 50s.
