The Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) won all the three games that they played in Mohali this year. However, when the team played away from home, they did not have a fruitful time. They somehow won the game against the Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur after the ‘mankading’ saga. But they lost both their next two matches against Kolkata Knight Riders and the Chennai Super Kings.
The team will once again be out of its comfort zone when they face the Mumbai Indians. Both these sides defeated SRH in their respective previous matches and seem to be high on confidence. KXIP seems to have struck the right balance after playing six games till now. However, there are still a few loose ends which they’d look to tighten.
Here is the Predicted Playing XI for the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP):
Openers (KL Rahul (wk), Chris Gayle)
KL Rahul, after the poor start to the tournament, has come back with two back-to-back fifties. He now understands his responsibility and is looking to bat right till the end. The Mumbai track should be good for his style of play and since he is high on confidence, Rahul will surely eye a triple-digit score in the match.
Chris Gayle hasn’t had the best of times in the last two games. Age is surely catching up and he isn’t able to clear the ropes with equal ease as he did earlier. The Jamaican, though, is hungrier than ever for runs and will look to break loose against the Mumbai Indians.
Middle Order (Mayank Agarwal, Sarfaraz Khan, David Miller, Mandeep Singh)
After the first-ball duck against CSK, Mayank Agarwal did well in the last match. He registered a good fifty and built up a good partnership with his mate KL Rahul. Sarfaraz Khan didn’t get to bat in the last match as there weren’t many overs left in the game and the required run rate was quite high.
Instead, KXIP opted to send David Miller. But the South African failed to finish the game for his team for the second time in a row. Mandeep Singh also faltered towards the end leaving Rahul in shambles. These batsmen should look to play more responsibly and shouldn’t repeat their mistakes.
All Rounders (Sam Curran)
Sam Curran is faring decently well with the ball. At this stage, KXIP will not have any thoughts about replacing him as he adds a great balance to the side. Curran did a fair job with the bat against SRH by picking up quick doubles and he also gave the strike to KL Rahul in the crunch situation.
Bowlers (Hardus Viljoen, Ravichandran Ashwin (c), Ankit Rajpoot, Mohammed Shami)
Hardus Viljoen is expected to be roped back into the eleven. Mujeeb hasn’t done well thus far playing away from home and he could be left out. Viljoen’s variations might help his team get a few wickets in Mumbai. Ravichandran Ashwin is experimenting with tons of variations in every game. It is quite unpredictable about what surprises he’ll come up with in the next game.
Ankit Rajpoot and Mohammed Shami will complete KXIP’s bowling line-up. Rajpoot did really well in the last match against SRH and was the most economical bowler. Even Shami is clocking up great speeds and will want to have more wickets next to his name in the upcoming encounter.
