IPL 2019: Match 35, Kolkata Knight Riders vs Royal Challengers Bangalore – Lesser Known Stats
Here are the lesser known stats from Royal Challengers’ 2nd win from nine matches in the IPL 2019.
Not often a team would be thrilled to win a game by 10 runs from a situation where the opponent needs 168 runs from 11 overs. The Royal Challengers Bangalore were that team on Friday in Kolkata where they came up against yet another Andre Russell blitz. The Caribbean all-rounder joined hands with Nitish Rana by adding 118 runs in only 8 overs. However, a couple of dot balls at crucial junctures cost the game for the home team.
Here are the lesser known stats from Royal Challengers’ 2nd win from nine matches in the IPL 2019:
KKR gets beaten at home:
Kolkata Knight Riders now have lost in each of their previous three matches at the Eden Gardens. They went down to Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings by 7 wickets and 5 wickets respectively in their previous two games here. With the 10-run defeat on Friday, KKR recorded their first instance of losing in three consecutive matches at their home venue in Kolkata. Royal Challengers Bangalore also defeated KKR for the first time in six matches they played since the start of 2017 in the IPL.
A rare award for Kohli:
The player of the match award in this game was Virat Kohli’s first in the IPL since the start of 2017 season. His last player of the match award in the IPL was during the last league game of 2016 against the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals). Kohli spent 35 matches without a POTM award in the IPL until this game.
Another IPL century for Kohli:
Virat Kohli’s ton in this game is his 5th in the IPL; all five as the captain of the RCB team. All other players collectively scored four centuries as captains in the IPL; one less than that of Kohli. Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, Adam Gilchrist and David Warner are the four players to score an IPL ton while leading their team.
Kuldeep concedes plenty:
The 59 conceded by Kuldeep Yadav in this game are the joint-most runs conceded in an IPL game by a spinner. Imran Tahir also conceded 59 runs while representing Delhi Daredevils (Now Delhi Capitals) during the 2016 season against the Mumbai Indians in Vizag.
Uthappa’s slow knock:
In pursuit of a huge target, Robin Uthappa found himself in tatters as he scored only nine runs from the 20 balls he faced. His strike-rate of 45 is now the 5th lowest in an IPL inning of 20 and more balls for a batsman. Among those top five scores in this list, as many as three have been recorded at the Eden Gardens and three times by KKR players only.
