IPL 2019: Match 4, Rajasthan Royals vs Kings XI Punjab – Lesser Known Stats
Here are the lesser known stats from the Kings XI's thrilling win over the Royals in Jaipur.
The game between Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab turned out to be a centre for the controversies and debates. The KXIP skipper Ravichandran Ashwin mankaded Jos Buttler in the 13th when the England player was running away with the game. Earlier in the day, Chris Gayle stole the limelight with his 79-run knock that helped him complete 4,000 runs in the IPL.
Here are the lesser known stats from the Kings XI’s thrilling win over the Royals in Jaipur:
KXIP’s maiden win in Jaipur:
The Kings XI Punjab registered their maiden IPL win at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. The KXIP team lost each of their previous five matches played in Jaipur against the Rajasthan Royals team. The Royals defeated KXIP in Jaipur while chasing a total during the 2008, 2010 and 2013 editions and successfully defended totals during the games in the 2012 and 2018 seasons.
Mankad in the IPL:
Amidst the outrage and the talks about the Spirit of the Cricket, Ravichandran Ashwin created history by infecting the Mankad dismissal in the IPL. Jos Buttler turned out to the unlucky player to be dismissed for the first time in such a way in the league. However, this wasn’t the first time Buttler was caught backing up at the non-striker’s end.
During an ODI in 2014 against Sri Lanka, England’s keeper-batsman was ‘mankaded’ by the Sri Lankan off-spinner Sachithra Senanayake. It happened barely ten minutes after the warning given by Senanayake to Buttler for backing up. Jos didn’t realize from his mistake and Sri Lanka decided to appeal for his wicket and the umpire’s obliged to send him back to the pavilion.
Jos Buttler vs KXIP:
Jos Buttler has a brilliant record while facing the Kings XI Punjab. His promotion as an opener has helped him to gain consistency in the IPL. The 69-run knock in RR’s opening game of the 2019 season was Buttler’s 4th consecutive fifty against KXIP in the IPL. Buttler scored 82 and 51 for the Royals in the previous season and 77 for the Mumbai Indians in the 2017 edition.
Sarfaraz’s highest IPL score:
Sarfaraz Khan was considered to be the next big thing back in 2015 but fitness issues and injuries cost his development. Making his debut for the Kings XI against the Royals, Sarfaraz registered his highest IPL score with his unbeaten 29-ball 46. His previous highest score in the IPL was 45* for RCB during the 2015 season also against the Royals. Sarfaraz didn’t feature in any professional game since representing RCB during the last year’s game played against the Royals and that game was also played in Jaipur.
