The change of name has worked wonders for the Delhi Capitals (DC) this season. A team that has mostly confined itself to the bottom half of the points table in the last few years is suddenly competing for one of the top two spots. Led by the young Shreyas Iyer, they’ve had different match-winners who have punched about their weights at different times.
With 7 wins in 11 games, the Capitals have almost secured a place in the playoffs. However, they would prefer getting a better hold of the best spots on the points table by defeating the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in their next game. Even though the English players have left, it won’t affect DC much and their eleven looks well balanced.
Here is the Predicted Playing XI for the Delhi Capitals (DC):
Openers (Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan)
Prithvi Shaw hasn’t had the best of seasons this year. In 11 games thus far, he only managed to score 262 runs. He is either putting on a decent score by consuming a lot of deliveries or is perishing soon after getting to a lightning start. The youngster took 39 balls to score 42 runs in the last match and hasn’t been able to accelerate in the hour of need.
Shaw needs to take a cue from Shikhar Dhawan who has turned around things completely in the last few matches. Even though Dhawan got to a slow start to the tournament, he is amongst the leading run-scorers now and the highest for DC. The left-hander has scored 54 from 27 balls in the last matches and has got 401 runs in the tournament thus far.
Middle Order (Shreyas Iyer (c), Rishabh Pant (wk), Colin Ingram)
Shreyas Iyer has been slightly inconsistent this season. While he is usually a class act, he fell to a young Riyan Parag for just 4 runs in the game against RR. However, he will be crucial on a tough batting surface at the Kotla during the upcoming match. After some poor performances with the bat, Rishabh Pant struck gold in the last match.
He played a blistering knock against Mumbai in the first game of this season. But since then, there hasn’t been anything substantial from him. Howbeit, in the last game, he proved what a special talent he is with an unbeaten 78 from 36 balls. He stayed in the middle right till the end and scored the winning runs for his team. Colin Ingram remained unbeaten on 3 and didn’t have much to do in the last match.

All Rounders (Chris Morris, Sherfane Rutherford, Axar Patel)
Chris Morris is one of the better options for DC to bowl at the death. Even though he’s been slightly expensive, the South African has picked up 12 wickets this season. On a good batting surface against RR, he gave away 41 runs in 4 overs and picked up 1 wicket which is decent enough for someone who bowls the final few overs.
Sherfane Rutherford seems to be a highly exciting talent. DC should provide him with chances in all the remaining league games since they’ve nearly qualified for the playoffs. He strikes the ball hard and long. Coming in to bat in the pressure situation in the last game, he struck one four and a six before getting out. Axar is a must on the Delhi pitch where there is grip and turn. In the last encounter, the left-arm spinner picked up one wicket.
Bowlers (Kagiso Rabada, Amit Mishra, Ishant Sharma)
Kagiso Rabada wasn’t completely at his best in the last game. He gave away 37 runs but picked up two important wickets. His biggest battle in the next game will be against the likes of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. Even if he can get one of them early, he’d have placed his team slightly ahead in the race.
Amit Mishra bowled just three overs against RR and went wicketless. But the Kotla surface will assist him better and he knows the ground in and out. Since both Virat and ABD have had slight troubles against leg-spin, even he’d be looking to exploit the weakness. Ishant Sharma, meanwhile, has been doing a terrific job in the powerplay. He bowls three of his overs right at the top and has been highly economical. He was the best bowler for his team in the last match in terms of the economy rate. In four overs, he gave away only 29 runs and also dismissed Ashton Turner.
