IPL 2019: Match 4 - RR vs KXIP - Who Said What

There was a lot of action in the fifth match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) which was played between the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in Jaipur. The visitors trumped the Royals in Pink by 14 runs in a high-scoring encounter but more than that, Ravi Ashwin mankading Jos Buttler was in the discussion during and after the game.

The incident took place in the 13th over of the chase when the game was nicely set up. Ashwin stopped while delivering the ball and after seeing that Buttler, who was not out on 69, was out of the non-striking end, he disturbed the bails and the matter was taken upstairs. As it is in the laws of the game, the third umpire only saw the replays and adjudged the batsman out.

Buttler stormed off the field in disgust after which the Royals derailed completely. Steve Smith tried his bit but it was never enough. Eventually, chasing a total of 185 runs, they could only reach 170 runs and the wickets literally galore in the last four overs. They collapsed from being 148/2 to 164/9 and the game was done and dusted by then.

Gayle storm hits Jaipur

Earlier in the day, Chris Gayle announced his arrival to the IPL in the very first game of the team. He took his time early on and watched the likes of KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal get out cheaply. But he decided to get going after 10 overs and the man to come in his radar was Jaydev Undakat. Some different level of cricket was witnessed by the fans then from the Universe Boss who slammed 79 runs off just 47 balls.

Even Sarfaraz Khan batted well to remain unbeaten on 46 off 29 deliveries as the KXIP posted a mammoth total of 184 runs on the board which proved eventually enough for them to register their first win of the season.

KXIP skipper, Ravi Ashwin said:

We all know that after six overs it is going to slow down and gives a bit for the bowlers. Credit to bowlers on how they bowled. I have been working on a lot of variations, so pretty pleased that it came out. Also, getting the ball to duck back into the right-hander was a big plus.

No really argument to that (Mankading Buttler) and its pretty instinctive. I actually didn’t load and he left the crease. That’s always been my take on it because it’s my half of the crease. I was not even at the crease, he wasn’t even looking at me and he just left the place.

We ended on the right side of the coin, but I definitely think that those are game-changing moments. Lots of pluses. Shami’s form Ankit’s ability to bowl and come back into the game. Mujeeb delivered the goods. Sam (Curran) had a bad day with the ball, but he came back well. Everybody ticked their boxes. We do have a few options amongst our midst, but if we can have good five overs, there is nothing like it.

RR skipper, Ajinkya Rahane said:

I thought we were batting really well. We started off well at the top and then got another good partnership. Later on we needed 39 off 4 overs and we thought that could have been done easily. But KXIP bowled really well in the last three overs.

We are not supposed to comment on a controversial issue. The match referee will take the call. We will take the decision sportively. When you are chasing 180 plus, someone has to go really hard. Definitely, Jofra bowled really well. He was good for us in the last season as well. Jos, we all know how dangerous he is.

Man of the Match, Chris Gayle said:

This is a big ground and it is really important to score runs in the first game.I have been in a bit of form in the England series and it’s good to start off the IPL on a positive note. What was more important is that we got a win.

We just keep getting better and better. Sometimes some people will write you off but It’s still early days and I’m enjoying my cricket. Eventually they got a better wicket to bat on but our bowlers did the job the for us. Sarfaraz got some runs today and it was really good. Our youngsters have a lot to offer for the team, they want to win the IPL for the Universe Boss.
