Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) lost from a commanding position against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). However, the team, captained by Kane Williamson, came out all guns blazing to beat the Rajasthan Royals (RR) by five wickets with one over to spare. Their bowlers were taken to the cleaners, but their batsmen stood up to the challenges and carved SRH’s maiden victory in IPL 2019.

Samson scores his maiden IPL ton

Rajasthan Royals won the toss and opted to field first. The decision backfired as the visiting team scored 198 in their 20 overs. The in-form Jos Buttler succumbed to a rare failure after Rashid Khan castled him early. Thereafter, Ajinkya Rahane and Sanju Samson took over and cobbled together a stand of 119 runs off 75 deliveries to set the platform for the Royals’ for a blistering finish to their innings.

Rahane scored his half-century in 38 balls and he ended with a score of 70 from 49 balls with the help of four boundaries and three sixes. However, Samson stepped on the gas and notched his maiden IPL century in 54 deliveries. The youngster remained not out until the very end. Ben Stokes chipped in with a 9-ball 16 to propel the Royals’ score. For SRH, Rashid and Shahbaz Nadeem got one wicket each.

Warner plays a jaw-dropping knock

David Warner took the Sunrisers off to a tremendous start and got to his half-century inside the powerplay. The southpaw played some tremendous strokes and was eventually nipped out by Ben Stokes. Warner racked up 69 from 37 with nine boundaries and a couple of sixes. At the other end, Jonny Bairstow contributed as well. The Englishman scored 45 from 28 with six boundaries and a six.

He was the second wicket to fall, picked up by leg-spinner Shreyas Gopal. Warner and Bairstow’s partnership was 110 from 58 balls and it put the home team on the driver’s seat. Kane Williamson was dismissed cheaply by Unadkat. Nevertheless, Vijay Shankar churned out a quickfire knock of 35 to make a game a one-sided affair. Yusuf Pathan and Rashid Khan finished off the formalities.
