The Kings XI Punjab got the better of Mumbai Indians who defeated them twice in two matches this season. The KXIP team outplayed the visiting side during the middle overs which made the difference in the match. MI scored 62/1 in their first six overs while KXIP got only 38/0 but the 7-15 overs period cost Mumbai the game. They scored only 69 runs in those nine overs for the loss of three wickets while Kings XI amassed 102 runs despite losing two wickets.

Here are the lesser known stats and numbers recorded during Kings XI’s second win of the season:

Mr.333 gets to 300 in the IPL:

The Kings XI Punjab made a cautious start in the run-chase against the Mumbai Indians. Chris Gayle put the hosts out of the shell when he smacked two huge sixes off consecutive deliveries against Mitchell McClenaghan in the 3rd over. The 2nd six turned out to the 300th maximum for the Universe Boss in the IPL.

He thus became the first player in the history of the IPL to hit 300 sixes while no other player even has 200 sixes in the league. Gayle was also the first player to 100 sixes in the IPL. AB de Villiers, with his 192 sixes, stands at 2nd place in the list of players with the highest number of sixes in the IPL. What is more special about Gayle’s feat is that no player has hit 200 sixes in any Twenty20 competition.

A rare impact knock from Mayank:

Mayank Agarwal hasn’t flourished in the IPL as he was expected, given his decent success in the domestic circuit. He failed to grab the opportunities at a big stage like IPL and couldn’t make most of the starts he used to get. With his fifty in the game against KKR, the Karnataka batsman completed 1000 IPL runs in his 61st innings; the 2nd most any player has taken. However, his first IPL after becoming an Indian International seems to have brought a change in his record.

Mayank came all guns blazing in the chase against the Mumbai Indians on Saturday. He struck two maximums and four fours on his way through to a 21-ball 43. This knock fetched him the player of the match award; the only 2nd for him in 68 matches in the IPL. Mayank’s first such award in the league came during the 2015 season while playing for the Delhi Daredevils. He scored a 48-ball 68 against his current team Kings XI Punjab while chasing 166 at the MCA Stadium in Pune.

Kings XI Punjab’s winning streak:

The Kings XI Punjab extended their winning streak at their home ground – the PCA Stadium in Mohali as they won each of their previous five matches here. The streak began during the 2017 edition where they won their last game played here in that season. They further won all the three matches played during the previous season at this venue. This win against the Mumbai Indians was their first in Mohali against them since the start of 2012. They lost each of their last four matches vs MI at this venue.
