In their opening match of this edition’s Indian Premier League (IPL), Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) snatched victory from the jaws of defeat. The match with Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur went right down to the wire and the visitors managed to emerge victorious by 14 runs. The game also had its fair share of controversies after KXIP captain Ravi Ashwin ‘mankaded’ Jos Buttler.
The English wicketkeeper-batsman was at the non-striker’s end and backed up too much, after which Ashwin whipped off the bails to get the Englishman dismissed. More than the result, the game grabbed the headlines for the act, which was deemed to be against the Spirit of Cricket by many. KXIP went on to lose their second game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
The loss meant that Punjab are currently hanging at the bottom of the points table. However, now they would be playing their first home match at the PCA Stadium in Mohali against the Mumbai Indians (MI), against whom they lost their last four games at the very venue. On the other end, the visitors would be high on confidence after their victory against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Bengaluru.
Rohit Sharma and Co lost at the Wankhede Stadium against the Delhi Capitals (DC), captained by Shreyas Iyer, but showed nerves of steel in their first away match. The franchise also needs to take care of their Net Run Rate (NRR), which isn’t the greatest at this point in time at -0.775.
How will be the weather?
According to AccuWeather, there are no chances of rain, which means that the game would be uninterrupted. The temperature will be around the 32-degree mark and the humidity isn’t expected to take that much of a toll on the players.
