IPL 2019: Matthew Hayden calls MS Dhoni an era of cricket
Dhoni's team will take on Mumbai in a bid to win their record 4th IPL title.
MS Dhoni’s captaincy style is legendary and he has proved once again why he is regarded as one of the best captains in the cricket history ever. Three ICC trophies- the ICC T20 World Cup in 2007, the ICC World Cup in 2011 and the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013 are all in his cabinet and he is the only captain to win all the three. Add to that three IPL titles in 2010, 2011 and 2018, and MS Dhoni is what you call once in a generation captain.
He has continued to be an enigmatic batsman and phenomenal wicketkeeper for over a decade and a half. Dhoni could literally command a post in any team on the basis of one of these three attributes while he has all of them in him. On May 12, he will lead the Chennai Super Kings against the Mumbai Indians led by Rohit Sharma in the finals of the IPL 2019, which is their eighth appearance in 10 seasons and a chance to become the first team to defend their title, twice.
Immediately after this Dhoni will join Team India for the upcoming World Cup campaign in England and Wales in what could possibly be his final international commitment.
Matthew Hayden praises Dhoni, calls him an era of cricket
“You know Dhoni, he is not just a player, he is an era of cricket. In many ways I think MS is like the captain of the gully cricket team, he is one of us, he will do anything,” former CSK opener Matthew Hayden was quoted as saying by India today.
With an average of 103.5, the Chennai skipper is so far the leading run-scorer for his side this season having accumulated 414 runs from 11 innings. He has been the sole batsmen who has been consistent from the initial few games to the final. The franchise has looked out of sorts when Dhoni has not fired and in the games, he did not play this season.

He also has to deal with the fact that CSK has lost to MI three times this season and the Men in Blue and Gold have a lead of 2-1 against Chennai in IPL finals as well.
But Matthew Hayden knows that a calm and cool Dhoni can do wonders for the yellow brigade and thus said, “I think we can all relate to him because we all have busy lives working around with friends and families and that’s a big commitment. So, someone like that at the helm will make you feel calm, will make you feel relaxed and that’s why Thala Dhoni that word ‘Thala’, obviously meaning the leader of Chennai, but you it’s almost like the leader of a nation.”
