Royal Challengers Bangalore’s winless run continued on Sunday as Delhi Capitals thrashed them by four wickets to condemn them to the sixth straight defeat. For the Royal Challengers Bangalore, things did not go down once again after Shreyas Iyer won the toss and asked them to bat first.  The strong batting lineup of Royal Challengers once again faltered and managed to score just a modest total of 149 for 8.

Days after scoring 205 against Kolkata Knight Riders, the Royals batsmen came up a cropper against Kagiso Rabada and Co. The South African pacer starred with the ball, picking up four wickets to derail Royal Challengers’ innings. Skipper Virat Kohli waged a lone battle but failed to guide the team to a winning total. Kohli top-scored for his struggling team, scoring a fighting 41.

In reply, Delhi Capitals chased down the total with more than one over remaining. Delhi started the chase on a shaky manner as they lost their senior opener Shikhar Dhawan for a duck in the very first over. Prithvi Shaw and Iyer then steadied the ship with a 69-run stand before the former departed. Colin Ingram (22) and Rishabh Pant (18) played handy knocks while Iyer led the chase with a fine fifty. Axar Patel then finished the proceedings with a four in the 19th over.

With Royal Challengers’ season now looking as good as over, former England batsman Michael Vaughan has advised India to consider the larger picture. With the World Cup ahead, Vaughan suggested that India should now rest Kohli, writing, “If India are smart they rest @imVkohli now for the World Cup … Give him some time off before the big event … #IPL2019”

Key is to relax

Meanwhile, Kohli has asked his teammates to relax and take it easy despite his team suffering a sixth straight loss this season.

“The key is to take it easy, relax. Whatever is front of us it is in front of us, we can’t change the situation. If we stop enjoying, the rest of the games will also be suffering. We want to enjoy ourselves as a team and come out and play expressive cricket,” Kohli said after the game.
