IPL 2019: Michael Vaughan predicts Orange Cap and Purple Cap winners of the season
Vaughan is in India to cover the tournament.
With the Indian Premier League (IPL) now just a handful of hours away from getting underway, the excitement is all around. The cricketing world is all geared up to witness another great Indian summer where big names from across the globe fight it out in the lucrative T20 league for a couple of months. The twelfth edition of the tournament will kickstart with the mouth-watering clash between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Chepauk on Saturday.
And as the season inches closer, the cricketing world is busy predicting the winners of the competition, the players who will make a mark and the players who will finish the season as the highest run-scorer and wicket-taker. Former England skipper Michael Vaughan has joined the bandwagon and has revealed his picks.
The ex-cricketer-turned-commentator, who is in India to analyse the IPL games, picked Kuldeep Yadav and Rishabh Pant to finish the upcoming season as the top run-scorer and wicket-taker respectively. Vaughan further reiterated that Royal Challengers Bangalore will win this edition of the competition.
Michael Vaughan took to Twitter to make his predictions, writing, “#NoBrainer … @RishabPant777 leading scorer … @imkuldeep18 leading Wicket taker … @RCBTweets to win it !!!!!”
Pant and Kuldeep – Two players to watch out for
The way Pant and Kuldeep have performed in recent times, very few can argue Vaughan’s prediction. While Pant has taken the cricketing world by storm with his stunning exploits in Test cricket, Kuldeep has managed to make his own mark across formats. Moreover, Pant, who finished the Test series in Australia as the second highest run-scorer, will be keen to do well this season after the recent criticism he faced following his poor performances in the ODI series against Australia.
The young wicketkeeper-batsman had finished the last edition of the IPL as the second highest run-scorer after amassing 684 runs in just 14 games. Kuldeep, on the other hand, is set to spearhead Kolkata Knight Riders’ spin attack this season. The chinaman spinner, who is definitely set to play in the upcoming World Cup, had picked up 17 wickets in the last edition and will be eyeing a similar performance this season.
