MS Dhoni, the enigmatic Indian cricketer, has a calm and composed head on his shoulders. He hardly lets his emotions flow and the approach has helped him garner numerous laurels on the cricket pitch. However, in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) where he’s playing for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the 37-year-old has been seen losing his cool a few times.

Earlier, he showed his displeasure towards an on-field umpire for altering a no-ball decision. Yesterday, during CSK’s Qualifier 1 match against the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Dhoni showed his anger, this time on Murali Vijay, his teammate. After winning the toss and electing to bat first, the Yellow Army could only manage 131 runs in 20 overs.

Defending a modest score on a difficult strip to bat, CSK made a decent start as Deepak Chahar and Harbhajan Singh got rid of both the openers- Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock- in quick succession. Thereafter, Suryakumar Yadav came in to bat at number three. CSK were all over Mumbai and seemed like running away with the match without dropping much sweat.

In the fifth over of the run-chase, Chahar created another opportunity. The speedster bowled a back-of-a-length delivery and Yadav tried to whip the ball through the leg side, using his wrists. However, the batsman couldn’t get the timing right and the ball flew towards Vijay, who was standing at mid-on. The fielder dived onto his right, but couldn’t take the catch.

To add insult to injury, the ball sped away to the boundary for a four. The poor effort made Dhoni shout at Vijay. The missed-chance definitely cost the Super Kings as Surya remained unbeaten on 71 from 54 balls with 10 fours and saw his team through to a six-wicket victory. The knock helped Mumbai chase down the target with nine deliveries to spare.
