IPL 2019: MS Dhoni should not rush back and have enough rest, feels Kris Srikkanth

Chennai Super Kings lost their previous match to Sunrisers Hyderabad and a big reason for that was the absence of MS Dhoni who took a break given his back spasm problems. Suresh Raina led the side in his stead but was unable to take the team to a win in Hyderabad. However, he was seen batting in the nets on the eve of CSK’s match against RCB in Bengaluru and it is expected that Dhoni will be back for this tie.

Chennai have won seven matches out of nine played till now and are on the top of the IPL 2019 points table. They practically need only one win to qualify for the playoffs. Considering that Dhoni has been troubled by his back for quite a long, former India captain Kris Srikkanth believes that the veteran should take rest for some more time and not rush into the tournament.

Srikkanth feels that Dhoni should rest as much as possible

“With the World Cup being the prime focus, I will look at Dhoni resting for one or two more games to ensure his back is completely back to normal. In his own interest and taking into consideration his presence being vital both to CSK and India, Dhoni should not rush back,” Srikkanth was quoted as writing in his column for Times of India.

Super Kings have had an upper hand against Bengaluru-based team as they had defeated them in the tournament opener in Chepauk, bowling them out for just 70 runs on a rank turner. This match, however, will be played on a batting beauty in Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, where CSK had beaten RCB in their last meeting in IPL 2018, where Dhoni had played an amazing inning and won the match by hitting a six.

“For all practical purposes, the defending champions are assured of a playoff spot and with a cluster of home games coming their way, I don’t see them being displaced from the top-two in the table,” he further added.

Srikkanth also opined that if MS Dhoni opts to rest for this match, Virat Kohli’s RCB team will fancy their chances of a win over the table toppers and the match is always an interesting one to watch, no matter the outcome.
