A die-hard fan may know that MS Dhoni had made his first-class debut for Bihar Ranji Team way back in 1999-2000. That’s 20 years ago and during this time, Dhoni has shared the field with numerous national and international cricketers. It is highly possible that Dhoni might have played with a pair of the father-son duo, something that recently came to light.
MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings is doing wonders in the ongoing IPL 2019 with 8 wins in 11 matches and holding the top spot in the points table. Recently, CSK faced Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, in which the visiting team defeated the home team and Dhoni had dismissed a 17-year-old Riyan Parag.
However, here is when things get interesting and Harsha Bhogle, the ace commentator unveiled connecting Parag and Dhoni.
MS Dhoni stumped Riyan Parag’s father
As bizarre as it sounds, Dhoni’s career has spanned so long that he has managed to dismiss a father-son duo on top-flight cricket. Going back to roughly about 19 years, when Dhoni had just made it into the Bihar Ranji side, they faced off against Assam in an East Zone fixture which featured Riyan’s father Parag Das, who opened the innings.
The wicketkeeper-batsman brought an end to Das’ innings by stumping him out after he had made 30 runs from 24 balls. This means that Dhoni might be one of the few wicketkeepers to dismiss both father and son in senior cricket.
Here is Harsha’s tweet:
Someone on twitter (sorry there were lots of msgs and I can't trace the name) pointed out this interesting bit of trivia. #RR played #CSK on April 11 in Jaipur and Riyan Parag was caught by MS Dhoni for 16.

An Assam opener, called Parag Das was stumped by a young keeper called MS Dhoni. Parag Das is Riyan Parag's father! And MSD is the constant!— Harsha Bhogle (@bhogleharsha) April 26, 2019
Riyan Parag, meanwhile, has done well for himself, scoring 47 important runs against KKR, as he helped RR chase down 176 run-target with help of Jofra Archer (27*), Ajinkya Rahane and Sanju Samson. Earlier, Man of the Match Varun Aaron’s 2/20 had potentially halted KKR’s charge, before Dinesh Karthik slammed 97* to take the team to 175. RR handed KKR their sixth straight defeat denting their playoffs chances.
