Mumbai Indians (MI) are currently at the third position in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) with five wins from eight matches. They are looking the favourites to make it to the playoffs at the moment. But the team was dealt with a huge blow on Wednesday when their star pacer Alzarri Joseph was ruled out of the rest of the season. He had injured his shoulder while fielding in the game against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) on April 13.
Joseph had also missed the team’s previous game against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). The Windies pacer has dislocated his shoulder and his replacement is not yet announced by the franchise. “He has dislocated his shoulder and is out of this IPL season,” the sources were quoted as saying by Insidesport. Joseph was originally Adam Milne’s replacement and it remains to be seen who replaces the Caribbean.
Joseph’s record-breaking performance
Alzarri Joseph played only three matches after being roped in as Adam Milne’s replacement but he did a fine job. On his IPL debut, the Caribbean pacer picked 6/12 against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to register the best figures in the history of the tournament. However, he couldn’t do much in the following couple of outings and was thrashed by Jos Buttler in the game against the Royals.
Joseph conceded 53 runs in just three overs and injured himself in the same game and was later replaced by Lasith Malinga for the next encounter.
The franchise is yet to name the replacement for Joseph and it remains to be seen who replaces the pace bowler. It will be tough for Mumbai Indians now to sign anyone as the team combination might get disturbed. Mumbai are looking good to make it to the playoffs and will hope that no more players in the team get injured now.
