IPL 2019: Mumbai Indians make Barinder Sran wear the Emoji Punishment kit
This year too the tradition of punishment continued.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) is a very serious tournament with eight franchises consisting of world-class players from India and all around the globe participating in two months of intense T20 cricket matches and entertaining the world with their skills.
However, being a serious tournament, team managements of various franchises have devised some techniques of keeping their players in the line, given there are many players who are young and tend to revel out. One such punishment is the Mumbai Indians’ emoji punishment kit. Players tending to do something to break rules or missing schedules are made to wear ridiculous kits with emojis printed on them.
The emoji punishment kit of MI
Last year, the Mumbai Indians came up with a strategy of making players toeing the rule line wear a ridiculous kit in public. The kit was embroidered with various emojis from chat apps and overall made the player look amazingly goofy. Ishan Kishan, Anukul Roy and Rahul Chahar were made to wear the goofy costumes after they had missed sessions with physio and missed gym time.
Ishan missed a gym session, Anukul never reported for a session with the physio while Chahar wore jeans when the whole team was asked to wear tracksuits in the bus. Even Suryakumar Yadav had to wear an emoji punishment kit for his folly.
This year too the tradition of punishment continued, as Barinder Sran, who was picked up by MI in the IPL 2019 auction, was made to wear a similar looking, but yellow colored kit. The Mumbai Indians uploaded a picture of Sran on their official Twitter account with a caption, “The recipient of the maiden Emoji Punishment kit of @IPL 2019 is @sranbarinder 😅😂😅 Can you guess why did he wear it? #OneFamily #CricketMeriJaan #MumbaiIndians”
Mumbai Indians are high in spirits after handing the Chennai Super Kings their first defeat this season in their fourth match, as MI came out victorious in their own den. Thanks to Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard, MI put up 170 runs on board. Then Pandya picked three wickets and Jason Behrendorff picked two to keep CSK to 133 in 20 overs and winning the match by 37 runs.
