Mumbai Indians (MI) finished the round-robin stage on top of the points table in this edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Thereafter, Rohit Sharma & Co. defeated the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Qualifier 1 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium by six wickets. Moreover, they also qualified for the Final against MS Dhoni’s CSK itself that will be played today in Hyderabad.

The Super Kings have been a brute force but bowed down to Mumbai on every other occasion in the T20 tournament. And all of the MI’s victories were pretty comprehensive. CSK lost only two games at the Chepauk this year and all both came versus Mumbai. Mumbai are the three-time IPL champions, having got their hands on the coveted trophy in 2013, 2015 and 2017 respectively, In the meantime, Mumbai doesn’t want to dwell on the past. Rather, the team wants to focus on the upcoming game.

“We have to play good cricket. For us as a team, it’s important to focus on the day, and think about how we can win the game rather than what has happened in the past, what our team or the opposition has done. For us, as long as I’m concerned, the focus will be on the game and how we can play a good one.

We will not focus on what has happened in the past, who has won trophies how many times etc. We have to treat this as another match and that is what we have done through the tournament,” Rohit said in the pre-match press conference.

The teams have played here before as well: Rohit

The all-important final will be played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium and Rohit reckons the venue as a ‘beautiful one’. The ground is the home venue for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), who were eliminated after the Eliminator versus the Delhi Capitals (DC). In his interaction, Rohit also highlighted the importance of assessing the pitch as quickly as possible.

“Yes, of course, it’s a beautiful venue for both the teams. The teams have played here before as well. So, they’re aware of the conditions and the dimensions of the ground. What will be important is to assess the pitch as quickly as we can, and see what the ideal score on that particular pitch will be and see what the ideal score will be if we bat first or what we should restrict CSK to,” he added.
