Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) couldn’t win their first two matches of this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL). After getting beaten by Chennai Super Kings (CSK), they fielded the same eleven against Mumbai Indians (MI). The franchise is currently playing the third match of the T20 tournament against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
The team made their first change of the T20 extravaganza. Virat Kohli and Co replaced fast bowler Navdeep Saini with leg-spinner Prayas Ray Barman. Subsequently, the latter became the youngest player to play the IPL at the age of 16 years and 157 days. The Young Turk from Bengal surpassed Mujeeb Ur Rahman, the Afghanistan tweaker, who made his debut last year at 17 years and 11 days.
Impressive Barman in domestic cricket
Barman made his List A debut last year in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and played reasonably well. His best bowling figures of 5-0-20-4 came against Jammu and Kashmir in Chennai. It was also his maiden List A match. Back in December 2018, he registered himself in the IPL auction at a base price of INR 20 lakhs. Thereafter, the Challengers and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) went hammer and tongs at the rookie spin bowler.
Eventually, it was RCB, who managed to bag his services, shelling out Ia significant NR 1.50 crore. Prayas recently played in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy where he picked up four wickets from as many matches at an average of 16 and an impressive economy rate of 7.11. The talented cricketer’s best bowling figures of 4/14 in the tournament was against Mizoram in Cuttack.
He then broke into the India B team that played a quadrangular series, also involving India A, South Africa A and Afghanistan A. In his first match against the Afghans, he impressed and picked up three wickets, conceding only 10 runs. He bowled well in the next two games as well. As far as the youngest IPL debutant is concerned, the list has Sarfaraz Khan, Pradeep Sangwan, and Washington Sundar as well.
