IPL 2019: Purse size of franchises before the retention
The last date to decide the retentions for franchises is November 15.
Since the next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is scheduled earlier because of the World Cup in May-July, the preparation is already underway. The season for IPL 2019 unofficially kicks off on November 15 with the announcement of Player Retention and the auction is most likely to be held in mid-December. All eight teams of the competition will have to decide whether to release or retain players in their squad for the next edition which will begin in end March and continue till the third week of May. The World Cup will kick off on May 30.
With the purse rising from Rs 80 crore to Rs 82 crore this season, it has become all the more significant for the teams to make strategic decisions on release and retention of players in the run-up to the auction. The team with the highest purse available at the 2019 auction is defending champions Chennai Super Kings (Rs 8.5 crore) while Kings XI Punjab is second with Rs 6.80 crore.
Rajasthan Royals have Rs 3.65 crore, Delhi Daredevils Rs 5.35 crore, Mumbai Indians Rs 2.55 crore, Kolkata Knight Riders Rs 2 crore, Sunrisers Hyderabad Rs 0.90 crore and Royal Challengers Bangalore Rs 0.15 crore.

The 2018 season of the IPL saw former champions Chennai lifting the title for the third time to equal Mumbai’s record. Veteran star Mahendra Singh Dhoni became the third captain to win three IPL titles besides Mumbai’s Rohit Sharma. Chennai’s victory was all the more special since they returned this year after serving two years of suspension, along with the Royals who made it till the eliminator in this year’s edition.
