IPL 2019: Rajasthan Royals full squad after the auction
RR picked 9 players in the auction - 6 Indians and 3 overseas to complete their squad for the season.
The Rajasthan Royals were on a spending spree last season and they continued in the IPL 2019 auction. They let go of some of their big signings which didn’t necessarily pay off and even resigned some of them. Jaydev Unadkat being the most prominent of those. Rajasthan had maintained the core of their side and thus knew exactly what sort of players they needed to complete and balance the squad.
They were led by Ajinkya Rahane in the previous season and England wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler turned out to be the find of the season. It didn’t just give their campaign a push but also earned Buttler a Test recall and is currently the vice-captain of the England team. Among Indians, the Karnataka boys Krishnappa Gowtham and Shreyas Gopal were at it right through the season and did bring a lot of value both with the ball and the bat.
RR had 9 places to be filled in the team with a cap of Rs 20.95 crores – they had the opportunity to signup 6 Indians and three overseas names for the same.
RR resign Jaydev Unadkat for the big bucks
In the auction, they made a couple of big buys and then made economy picks to complete their squad. It was quite surprising to see Royals once again bid for left-arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat, but they did.
He was with the team last season as well and had come with a huge price tag of 11.5 crores, he underperformed and unsurprisingly was released from the squad. The Royals went aggressively to resign their player and once again ended up shelling as much as Rs 8.4 crores.
The other big pick was Varun Aaron, the Jharkhand pacer on the back of his Vijay Hazare Trophy performance definitely commanded a contract and a substantial cheque. RR signed him for Rs 2.4 crore which is a very good buy for the team.
They also bought three overseas players in the big West Indian Oshan Thomas who had made a name for himself on the tour of India. He was bought for Rs 1.1 crore. Ashton Turner and Liam Livingstone for their base price of Rs 50 lakhs.
The other four uncapped players they bought in the auction are – Shashank Singh (Rs 30 lakhs), Riyan Parag, Manan Vohra and Shubham Ranjne for their base price of Rs 20 lakhs each.
Here is the Rajasthan Royals squad for IPL 2019:
