IPL 2019: Rashid Khan and Jonny Bairstow exchange pleasantries after latter joins SRH
SRH picked Bairstow for Rs 2.2 Crores.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad is often one of the best teams at the auction. The side went into the auction with the second-lowest purse and didn’t release whole a lot of players. They had most of their bases covered. However, the wicket-keeper slot has been a long-sought problem ever since the franchise came into existence. But, with Jonny Bairstow coming in, it might possibly put a full-stop to all the troubles.
For the initial few seasons, they were forced to carry on with Naman Ojha as they didn’t have many other options available. In the mega-auction for the 2018 season, they brought Wriddhiman Saha as their keeping option. However, he failed to live up to the expectations and ended up being a huge disappointment.
Looking forward to it says Jonny Bairstow
Hence, Saha was put back into the pool before the IPL 2019 auction. They were only left with Sreevats Goswami as the sole wicket-keeper in the side. At the auction, the side has got in Jonny Bairstow into the team at a bargain price of INR 2.20 crores. He will most probably open the innings for the team in 2019 along with David Warner.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad side put up a tweet welcoming Warner into the squad. “@jbairstow21 will be a part our squad for the upcoming season of @IPL Welcome to the #OrangeArmy, Jonny! Base Price: 150L Sold Price: 220L #IPL2019Auction #IPL2019,” they wrote in their tweet.
Leg-spinner Rashid Khan was quick to reply to this tweet and welcomed Jonny Bairstow into the Orange Army. “Welcome to orange army @jbairstow21,” he tweeted.
Jonny Bairstow thanked Rashid and said that he was looking forward to the stint with the Sunrisers Hyderabad. “Thanks mate, looking forward to it!,” wrote Bairstow in the reply.
