IPL 2019: RCB's Parthiv Patel lauds Jasprit Bumrah as the world No.1 bowler
Bumrah was the Man of the Match in MI's away match against RCB.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Mumbai Indians (MI) played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium last Thursday could have been anybody’s till the last ball but a huge goof-up by ground umpire S Ravi saw it going the visitors’ way eventually. The umpire overlooked a big no-ball from pacer Lasith Malinga which deprived the RCB a genuine ball besides a free hit and they lost the match by just six runs.
The focus after the game remained on the controversy with captains of both sides, especially RCB’s Virat Kohli speaking against it, but there were also some good performances on behalf of MI that helped them emerge the better side. One such performance was by pacer Jasprit Bumrah who took three wickets for 20 runs, including that of Kohli, to derail the RCB’s chase. Bumrah, who was uncertain for the game because of a shoulder injury in the first match against Delhi Capitals, was picked as the Man of the Match.
Parthiv Patel, RCB wicket-keeper and opener, praised Bumrah for his brilliant show and called him the “world No.1 bowler” for his show while sounding positive of the RCB’s chances ahead of their third game against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad on Sunday.
In the pre-match conference in Hyderabad, Parthiv said: “The way Bumrah bowled in the last game, he hardly gave anything. Even AB (de Villiers) struggled a bit against Bumrah. We won’t look too much into that. I thought we were up against the world number one bowler.” Parthiv scored 29 and 31 in the two games he has played in IPL 12 so far – against Chennai Super Kings and the MI.
RCB are pointless after two games; SRH have won one
RCB will be looking to pick their first points in the tournament on Sunday after tasting two straight defeats. The first match saw them getting bowled out for just 70 on a not-so-friendly wicket and losing by 7 wickets. The Sunrisers, on the other hand, lost their first match to Kolkata Knight Riders by 6 wickets but came back to win their second match against Rajasthan Royals on Friday by 5 wickets. In both games, their hard-hitting opener David Warner showed his class and ferocity and will pose a threat to Kohli’s men on Sunday.
