IPL 2019: RCB’s Shivam Dube speaks high about Virat Kohli’s captaincy
Shivam Dube also hails AB de Villiers as the latter suggested the youngster to keep a positive attitude.
He was one of the high hopes of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019, especially after his mega all-round show in the Ranji Trophy this year, but Shivam Dube couldn’t stand up to the billings in his maiden season. The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) bought the Mumbai cricketer for Rs 5 crore this season but the 25-year-old could get to play only four games in which he scored 40 runs at an average of 13 and highest score of 24.
The RCB didn’t fare well as a team either in this year’s tournament, finishing last among eight teams with six straight losses in the beginning. But Dube, who will now take part in Mumbai T20 League for Shivaji Park Lions, is treasuring the gains he made while sharing the dressing room with the likes of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. He, in fact, felt that Kohli is well-equipped to manage a team and said it is a dream for every young cricketer to play under Kohli irrespective of the format.
“Virat (bhaiya) is undoubtedly the best player we have in our team (RCB) at the moment. It’s a great opportunity to be mentored by him and playing under him. I think every young cricketer wants to play with him at least once, sharing the crease with him is something that goes a long way in helping you learn. I was lucky to have been able to play under him in this IPL,” India.com cited reports that quoted Dube as saying.
Shivam Dube said that he has learnt a lot of things from Kohli, including the way he keeps the team together. “He is a great leader,” he said. Kohli’s captaincy has come under the scanner after the Indian batting superstar failed to lead the franchise to the playoffs for three consecutive seasons.
Dube also hails De Villiers for his important suggestions
Dube also spoke highly about De Villiers, the other trump card of the RCB, saying that the South African great advised to keep a positive attitude irrespective of the situation and conceded that it helped him overcome tough situations.
“He’s a great team player and even as a senior, he always motivated me in practice as well as in the matches.”
Dube conceded that despite him giving his best, things didn’t work out and promised to do even better in the future.
Barring from Kohli and de Villiers’ batting, the RCB had a whole lot of loopholes that they failed to plug this season and crashed out prematurely.
