IPL 2019: Rohit Sharma welcomes Yuvraj Singh to the city of heroics
Mumbai bought Yuvraj at his base price of Rs 1 crore.
While the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 auction was remembered for the way Chris Gayle was picked by the Kings XI Punjab, the same was experienced by Yuvraj Singh the other day. India’s World Cup hero’s name was annnounced twice by the auctioneer. Earlier, all the franchises turned a deaf ear to him and didn’t bid but when the auction was fast-tracked, his name came again and Mumbai Indians (MI) famously placed a bid against him.
While none of the teams wanted him, all appreciated Mumbai’s step when they decided to take Yuvraj in their line-up. It would’ve been extremely unfortunate for a player like him to go unsold in one of the top T20 leagues in the world. But at a base price of Rs 1 Crore, Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai franchise bagged his services much to the excitement of the cricket fans.
Even the owner of the franchise Aakash Ambani termed Yuvraj’s inclusion as the biggest steal deal for them in their IPL history. The cricketer also acknowledged the team’s step and expressed his elation for being included in the line-up.
Hitman’s tweet for Yuvi
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma, who is currently in Australia, spared time out to welcome his dear friend and former India team-mate Yuvraj Singh to the Mumbai camp. He termed the financial capital of India as a city of heroics and indirectly called the flamboyant left-hander as the hero of the country. “Welcome to the city of heroics @YUVSTRONG12,” his tweet read.
This is Yuvraj Singh’s sixth team now in the IPL and he will be itching to make a mark before bidding adieu to the game. He couldn’t do much with the Kings XI Punjab last season and was dropped after failing in the first few matches. It will be interesting to see if he makes it to the playing XI of the MI team at the start of the season now.
