IPL 2019: Rohit Sharma’s incredible footwork to evade stumping could soon become a trend-setter
Twitter was amused by Rohit’s footwork and came up with interesting reactions.
T20 cricket is all about innovation and improvisation and the latest in the list of tricks have come from Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma who has come up with a new way to save stumpings in case he misses a ball to score. On Saturday, Rohit was seen coming down the track against a Rajasthan Royals (RR) bowler to hit a big shot but realised the ball was out of his reach and going down the leg and the wicket-keeper was ready to stump him. In a flash, the MI opener used to leg to prevent the ball from reaching the keeper to complete the formalities and extended his stay in the wicket.
Rohit came back to the side after missing the match against Kings XI Punjab earlier this week at the Wankhede Stadium that stand-in captain Kieron Pollard led from the front to help the MI win. On Saturday, Rohit showed glimpses of his class as he slammed 47 off 32 balls to put up 96 runs for the first wicket with wicket-keeper-batsman Quinton de Kock (81 off 52).
The MI were asked to bat by the RR at the Wankhede Stadium after the visitors won the toss. The home side put up a total of 188 for 6 wickets and Jos Buttler’s 43-ball 89 saw the RR winning the game by 4 wickets to remain in the race for the playoffs.
Coming back to Rohit’s incredible move to save himself from stumping, the bowler was spinner Krishnappa Gowtham who opened the bowling and though he and keeper Sanju Samson had thought of foxing the batsman trying to play a big shot, Rohit prevented the ball from reaching the keeper who fell sideways hoping that the ball would reach him after evading Rohit’s bat.
The dashing India opener however is yet to score a fifty this IPL and has the highest score of 48 scored against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Twitter was amused by Rohit’s footwork and came up with interesting reactions.
