IPL 2019: Shikhar Dhawan reveals the reason for his turnaround with the bat
Dhawan has scored more than 400 runs this season so far.
The son returned home this season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and has been connecting the ball well. Delhi Capitals’ (DC) opener Shikhar Dhawan has hit four half-centuries in the ongoing IPL season with the highest score of 97 not out. He is the fourth-highest scorer with a tally of 401 runs in 11 matches at an average of 40 and strike-rate of 137.
On Monday, Dhawan slammed a 27-ball 54 as the Capitals overhauled a competitive target of 192 against Rajasthan Royals (RR) to get a step closer to the playoffs. The DC are now sitting atop the table with 14 points with three more games to go.
Following his knock against the Royals, Shikhar Dhawan was asked the reason for his changed game considering the fact that he wasn’t getting much of good starts earlier in the edition. Dhawan, or ‘Gabbar’ as he is fondly called, came up with a funny answer saying he has turned into a vegetarian and his turnaround might have something to do with it.
Have changed mindset
“I have become a vegetarian, so mostly vegetable stuff (laughs). I have changed my mindset from the previous games and it’s been going good for me. I have been able to give good starts to my team and I am happy. I would say from the Bangalore game, I changed my mindset. I realised that I needed to play more aggressively,” Dhawan told the tournament’s official broadcasters after the match ended.
Shikhar Dhawan, who shifted his base from Sunrisers Hyderabad to his older franchise (then named Daredevils), is one of the most consistent batsmen in the IPL. Barring two lean seasons in 2009 and 2010, the hard-hitting left-handed batsman hasn’t ever scored less than 300 runs in an IPL season with the best being the 2010 edition in which he slammed 569 runs at an average of 40.64, his best so far unless bettered this year.
