Shimron Hetmyer was not having a very good debut IPL this season as he managed just 15 runs in prior 4 innings, he had played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). He was then given a chance in the final league match of the franchise this season and he displayed why the management should have persisted with him for some more time.

Hetmyer smashed 75 runs in just 47 balls and added 140 for the 4th wicket with Gurkeerat Singh (65), as RCB successfully chased down 175 runs put on by SRH batting first. RCB were playing for pride, Sunrisers were in a do-or-die situation with a playoffs spot on the line. For SRH, Kane Williamson scored 70 off 43 balls and Guptill (30) and Shankar (27) made valuable contributions.

I learned a lot from Virat and ABD

SRH even removed the RCB top three of Kohli (16), Parthiv (0) and AB de Villiers (1) to ensure a smooth start, but Hetmyer counterattacked brilliantly and took the game away with Gurkeerat. Man of the Match Shimron Hetmyer admitted in the post-match presentation that he found a bit hard to adapt in initial stages of the tournament, leading to failures. But admitted that he learned a lot from skipper Kohli and De Villiers.

“I have learned a lot from Virat and ABD and even the coaches. RCB are a fantastic side and a fantastic franchise. I am just trying to take my game one step at a time and just try to move up in whatever way I can,” Hetmyer said after receiving the MoM award.

Hetmyer, who has been chosen in the West Indies 15-man squad for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019, felt it was tough for him to settle down a bit, but had the backing of RCB team management.

“This time was a little bit tough for me. Getting used to the environment, getting used to the IPL was tough for me. I just had a word with the team management and they said to have some fun. I just tried to clear my mind as much as possible and wanted to execute my plans. The experience of IPL has been fantastic,” he signed off.
