IPL 2019: Shreyas Iyer still hopeful of a World Cup spot
He also noted that he is ready to bat at any number and is just waiting for a chance to represent the national side.
Mumbai’s Shreyas Iyer has been in terrific form in the domestic circuit and all his good work earned him the captaincy role with the Delhi Capitals for the upcoming edition. With some stupendous young talents and wonderful senior campaigners, the Capitals do look very strong and are raring to go big in the 12th edition.
With the World Cup on the horizon, not a lot of senior International players will be fully available for the tournament and this gives the youngsters a great chance to showcase their talents on the biggest domestic stage possible. Shreyas Iyer, who is most likely to feature all tournament, is confident of a good show and still remains hopeful of a place in the World Cup squad.
India’s middle-order conundrum remained unsolved in their last International assignment before the coveted tournament begins as they lost to Australia 3-2 on home soil. Shreyas Iyer, who did get a shot at the number 4 spot previously, wants to regain the position and wishes to do that with an impactful show with the Capitals.
“Definitely. Whatever matches I play in the IPL, if I get a great start, it’s really going to impact the selection (for the World Cup). They (selectors) will be thinking twice about me and that’s what I am really looking forward to,” he said during a media interaction on Saturday.
You can get a random call from selectors: Iyer
Shreyas Iyer also noted that he is ready to bat at any number and is just waiting for a chance to represent the national side. He also pointed out that his recent renditions in domestic tournaments were very good and although he isn’t thinking about the World Cup much, he does expect a random call from selectors.
“I’ll back myself at any number, whatever… I am just waiting for my chance. That’s it. I am doing well in every tournament. I am enjoying and not thinking about the selection processes. You can get a random call from the selectors that you’ve been selected for World Cup,” he said.
