IPL 2019: Speculation rife over DC holding trials in Kolkata to find replacements for injured players
The Capitals will lock horns with the Knights on Friday at the Eden Gardens.
Speculation was rife on Tuesday about Delhi Capitals (DC) looking for a couple of replacements in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 and it was also known that the franchise called for sudden selection trials in Kolkata. The curiosity went higher when it was learnt that some of the players injured in the squad are Indians.
Since the DC already have players who are in the run for the World Cup squad to be picked up soon — including Shikhar Dhawan and Rishabh Pant, the news about the injury generated all the more interest. However, it was later confirmed that none of the probables for the WC squad was injured
Around four to five players were called up on an urgent basis and one of them was from Maharashtra and playing in the Chennai league. He went to Kolkata to appear in the trials that were to be conducted by the DC think tank that includes former international captains like Sourav Ganguly and Ricky Ponting.
The DC officials, however, were not divulging the details. “We can’t comment who the injured player is and who have been called. We will comment only tomorrow,” he was quoted as saying by Bangalore Mirror.
Sources though revealed that the fitness issues were related to Harshal Patel, a 28-year-old medium pacer from Gujarat who has earlier played for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), and Rahul Tewatia, a 25-year-old all-rounder from Haryana. Tewatia has played earlier for Rajasthan Royals (RR). The BCCI said it has no information about the Capitals seeking replacements.
DC to meet KKR on Friday
The DC will be playing their next game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens on Friday. The DC have six points from six games at the moment and will look to repeat their winning performance over the KKR in their first match at the Feroz Shah Kotla Ground last month. The KKR lost their last game to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 7 wickets on Tuesday.
