The 32nd match of IPL 2019 was heading one-sided in the favour of the Kings XI Punjab. The Rajasthan Royals did not have the firepower towards the end of the innings and Ashton Turner bagged a golden duck in his debut game. Thus, it seemed as if the Royals would be handed over an embarrassing loss. However, Stuart Binny added life to the game with his scintillating hitting towards the end.
The 34-year-old has been one of the forgotten all-rounders in the Indian cricket circuit. He represented the nation in 6 Tests, 14 ODIs and 3 T20Is. However, inconsistent performances meant that he didn’t play at the highest level since 2016. With the emergence of the new-age all-rounders like Hardik Pandya and Vijay Shankar, Stuart Binny couldn’t hog the limelight anymore.
Dropped from Karnataka side in November 2018
Stuart Binny hasn’t had the best of times in domestic cricket either. After two poor outings, the Karnataka selection committee decided to drop the cricketer from the side. Thus, after 20 November 2018, the all-rounder didn’t play a single professional game. In that first-class match against Mumbai, he scored 33 runs in two innings and went wicketless in the match.
After that, Stuart Binny has made a return to the cricket field only during the game against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. He didn’t get an opportunity in that match. However, when he had his chance against the Kings XI Punjab, he grabbed it with both the hands. In just 11 balls, he scored 33 runs at a strike rate of 300. He smashed three sixes and two fours in his innings.
After this prolific performance, his wife Mayanti Langer put up a special Instagram story for her husband. She wrote that they always kept faith and indicated that it paid off. “When people forget you, choose your moments to remind them,” she wrote.
