The Indian Premier League (IPL) is 10 days away and the franchises are already preparing for the mega event. The first match will see Chennai Super Kings (CSK) take on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Chennai on March 23. The defending champions recently came out with a video showing their star member Suresh Raina singing the ‘Whistle Podu’ song. Raina, who is the highest scorer in the IPL with 4,985 runs, has a close affinity with the Chennai-based franchise throughout barring a few seasons.

The 32-year-old is fondly called “Chinna Thala” (small thala) by the CSK supporters while skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the “Thala”. The CSK released the video of the rendition with the caption ‘The whistlemax #ChinnaThala you just can’t get enough of! #WhistlePodu #YelloveAgain’ and it received a huge positive response. The video received over 17k likes.

Raina looked out of touch in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

Raina, who was a regular middle-order batsman during Dhoni’s rein, last played for India in an ODI against England in July last year. He is not in a great touch of late, scoring just one fifty in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament for his side Uttar Pradesh against Hyderabad. A member of India’s World Cup squad for the 2015 edition in Australia and New Zealand, the southpaw is not in contention for a place in the Men in Blue that will head for the WC scheduled this year in England and Wales.

Raina though will be concentrating more on the responsibility the team assigns him in the IPL. A serious servant of the CSK through the seasons, Raina will be one of the key members of the side in their mission to successfully defend their title they won last year on return from two years of suspension.

Raina is just 37 runs ahead of India captain Virat Kohli in the list of run-getters in the IPL though he has played 13 games more and scored three centuries less than the Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper.
