Getting Yuvraj into the side is a bold move by the team management and whether it pays off is to be seen in coming weeks.

When Yuvraj first burst onto the scene donning the Indian cap he used to serve as a middle-order batsman. Occasionally he used to take up the role of a finisher because of his hard-hitting abilities. Going through his record the team benefitted when Yuvi batted at No.4 or No.5 and the numbers are suggesting the same.

Yuvraj scored a decent amount of runs in Vijay Hazare trophy 2018-19 batting at No.5 but drafting Yuvi into the side will rob the Mumbai Indians of its flexibility they had in their batting order all these years and it is certainly not a step in the right direction.

His abilities as a finisher also have diminished considerably which was visible on the eve of the final of the 2014 World T20. So if Mumbai are thinking of using him instead of Pollard then the move can backfire as he has not played an innings of substance from a long time in that role.

Yuvraj may not feature in all games but even if he plays it can be a headache for skipper as he will have to make new combinations just for accommodating him. Finally one cannot deny the fact that Yuvraj Singh is a true gem of Indian cricket and his presence will certainly boost the team morale and that must be the reason why MI snapped him.
