IPL 2019: Three teams that can pick Gautam Gambhir in the auction
Gambhir isn't finished yet by any stretch of the imagination.
The writing was pretty much on the walls for Gautam Gambhir after the last edition of the Indian Premier League. He resigned as the captain of Delhi Daredevils (DD), didn’t play a single match thereafter and to add to his despair, the youngsters replacing him didn’t disappoint. He wasn’t at his best in any department and was unable to resurrect the Daredevils’ wretched fortunes in the mega tournament.
The fact that his heydays were with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) can’t be denied. Previously, he expressed his desire to play for his home state in the T20 event, but it somehow didn’t work out for the 37-year-old and he has been released. It also means that a brand new team now has the chance to get his services. In our article, we take a look at three franchise, who can go after him in the auction.
Chennai Super Kings
Last year, the franchise, captained by MS Dhoni, went for players, most of whom were in their 30s. They possessed a significant amount of experience but didn’t quite have the fresh legs, which is paramount in the shortest format. The team was also severely trolled for selecting a team with aged players. However, they had a successful season with the tactic, which seemed bizarre in the beginning.
To be precise, Shane Watson, who retired from international cricket two and half years ago, was a major factor behind their victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Bearing in mind the fact that Gambhir is a seasoned campaigner, CSK may bid for him. He isn’t a power hitter by any means but knows when to buckle down and press the accelerator.
