Glenn Maxwell’s underwhelming performance is literally an unsolved puzzle for Australia and his Indian Premier League (IPL) teams until now. Everyone including him is aware that he has the ability to win games single-handedly on his day. But those particular days have been very few in the last couple of years which has seen him losing his spot from the national team and also change in his IPL team. In 2018, Maxwell was bought by the Delhi Daredevils for a whopping amount of Rs 9 Crores.

But his returns were extremely poor and ended up with only 169 runs to his name in 12 outings. Though his strike-rate was over 140, Maxwell was expected to set the stage on fire. Delhi have taken a big decision to release him after signing him for a huge price and with most of the teams looking settled, it will be interesting to see which team will look to pick him in the auction. Not that he is a completely bad player, but the poor form has extended drastically for the 30-year-old.

Here we bring you the three teams who will have their eyes on the flamboyant cricketer when his name goes under the hammer:

1. Kings XI Punjab

This is the same franchise which went to the final of the 2014 season on the back of Glenn Maxwell’s scintillating batting. He aggregated a massive 552 runs in 16 matches that year at a superb strike-rate of 187.75 with four half-centuries. Actually, he was unlucky not to cross the three-figure mark on two occasions and was dismissed in the 90s. After having a dream season, the Australian couldn’t replicate the same in the following two seasons which led to KXIP releasing him.

As far as Punjab is concerned, they badly need a decent middle-order batsman who can take his time and finish the game strongly. Currently, they have David Miller but they can’t bank on him to do the job throughout the season and Mawell’s inclusion will certainly strengthen their stakes and who knows, if he hits form like in 2014, then this decision might well turned out to be a masterstroke for them.

The team led by Ravi Ashwin also struggled in the middle-order previous season and Maxwell could be the solution for their issues. The duo of Maxwell and Miller have the potential to win the title like they did four years ago.
