Ever since India’s World Cup was announced, everyone was waiting for Ambati Rayudu and Vijay Shankar meeting in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). As fate had it, the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) clashed with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) only after a couple of days. Moreover, Vijay Shankar was given a chance to prove his three-dimensional abilities and stepped up rather immediately.

Rayudu, only on Tuesday, had taken an indirect dig on the chief selector MSK Prasad by saying that he had ordered ‘3D’ glasses to watch the World Cup. But the script was even tougher for the Hyderabad cricketer. Vijay snaffled Faf du Plessis in his very first over and Rayudu was out to face the man who had replaced him in the World Cup squad.

The crowd got into the act even as Vijay Shankar, the Chennai cricketer playing for Hyderabad franchise, ran to bowl Ambati Rayudu, the Hyderabad batsman playing at home for Chennai franchise, and the latter almost played on.

A delightful sight

While the 3D jokes starting doing rounds on the social media soon but at the end of the same over (11th over), the crowd witnessed a delightful sight which was completely unexpected of. Vijay Shankar, after the completing over, came back towards Rayudu and the duo shook hands followed by a small hug. It was an anti-climax to the episode but it cleared that the cricketers had nothing against each other.

It was business as usual then for both the cricketers as they tried best to keep their respective team on top on the day. Rayudu ran out of the partners and couldn’t force the pace in the death overs. But he remained unbeaten on 25 off 21 deliveries while batting at ‘number four’. Shankar also had a decent day with the ball and returned with the figures of 1/11 in his two overs. However, he failed with the bat at ‘number four’ scoring just 7 runs off 11 balls.
