IPL 2019: Virat Kohli reveals the reasons behind Royal Challengers Bangalore's poor run
RCB is yet to get its hands on the coveted IP trophy.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is one of the most popular teams of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and is led by the most dashing Indian cricketer, Virat Kohli, who also happens to be the country’s national captain. The side has had some exciting talents in the forms of Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers (he still plays for the side) besides Kohli. But despite all the efforts, the franchise has never succeeded to win the title in 11 years since the inception of the IPL.
RCB have made the finals three times (2009, 2011 and 2016) but on each occasion, they finished second-best, only to leave their fans heart-broken. They lost all the three finals batting second with the defeats in 2009 and 2016 being quite narrow. In 2016, Kohli was at the helm and the side put up a great acceleration to make the finals but lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad by just eight runs.
Kohli, who has been leading the side for some time now, recently said that incorrect decisions were the reasons for which the RCB never could clinch an IPL title. On Saturday, he said this while attending an event along with former India pacer Ashish Nehra and former South Africa opener Garry Kirtsen – both coaches of the franchises now. The event was for the launch of an RCB App which has been created to bring all the RCB fans together and give them a one-stop platform to all things related to the franchise.
‘Our decision-making was not good in big games’
“If you take wrong decisions, then you will lose. Our decision making was not good in big games. When the decision making is balanced, those teams have won in the IPL,” Kohli said.
The ace batsman, who is the second highest scorer in the IPL after Suresh Raina at the moment, thanked the RCB’s strong fan base. He said despite the team not winning the trophy even once, it never felt that the fans were losing enthusiasm ahead of a season and he found it something standing out.
The RCB had a disappointing finish last year as they failed to qualify for the playoffs and will take on defending champions Chennai Super Kings in the first game of this season in Chennai on March 23.
