IPL 2019: Virender Sehwag hails Andre Russell and Virat Kohli

Former India opener Virender Sehwag has hailed Andre Russell and Virat Kohli after their starring performances in the thrilling game between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Eden Gardens on Friday. More than 400 runs were scored once again as each side scored over 200 runs. In the end, the Royal Challengers managed to win the game by 10 runs to register their second win of the season.

Asked to bat first, RCB started slowly. However, just when it looked like they would post a modest total, Kohli and Moeen Ali shifted gears. The two fired on all cylinders to fire the Royal Challengers to a mammoth 213 for 4 in the stipulated 20 overs. Kohli starred with the bat, scoring exactly 100 to bring up his fifth IPL ton and first since scoring 4 centuries in the 2016 IPL. Moeen, on the other hand, hammered 65 from just 28 balls.

In reply, the Knight Riders put up a good fight too but the target was perhaps just too big to chase down. At one stage, it looked like KKR would lose the game without offering much fight. However, Andre Russell and Nitish Rana completely changed the complexion of the game with some unbelievable power-hitting. The two added 118 runs from just 48 deliveries to almost pull off a heist at the Eden Gardens. But their efforts went in vain as the Royal Challengers held firm to defend the total by 10 runs. Rana scored an unbeaten 85 while Russell blasted 65 from just 25.

Virender Sehwag impressed

Following the game, Virender Sehwag took to Twitter to state that nothing is impossible when Russell is at the crease. The legendary batsman also had a word of praise for Virat Kohli as he hailed the thrilling game too.

“Almost anything is possible. Andre Russell can do anything with bat in hand. Cleanest hitting one can wish to see. Fantastic 100 from Virat as well and a top class match,” wrote Virender Sehwag.
